About Us

The Breeze is the only official student newspaper at JMU. The newspaper is printed on Monday and Thursday and distributed on-campus as well as in the surrounding community.

The Breeze is made up of two large divisions, the editorial staff and the business staff. Editorial section editors supervise writers. There are News, Sports, Opinion, and Arts & Entertainment sections in the newspaper. In addition, there are photo and graphics staffs. The Breeze also employs a web staff. The business staff sells and designs advertising.

The Breeze has recently been named the Best All-Around Non-Daily Student Newspaper in the country by the Society of Professional Journalists.

Working for the Breeze
Anyone can volunteer to write, take photos, and create graphics for The Breeze or to work on The Breeze website. After writing five articles (or in the case of web volunteers, participating in five productions), volunteers will get paid for their work. Each section of The Breeze will hold meetings, send e-mails or make calls to keep volunteers informed of upcoming assignments. The best way to get involved with The Breeze is to attend these meetings or get your name and number on the e-mail and phone lists. You can write for any section (or more than one, if you would like), take photos, create graphics, or work on the website - the choice is up to you. If you are interested in working for The Breeze, we are eager to have you. Simply get in touch with a section editor.
