Find out what JMU lingo really means
JAC CARD: This is your James Madison University Access Card, which acts as your university identification card and allows you to get your meals, swipe into buildings, check out library books and gain entrance to the gym. Try not to lose it!
PUNCH: A punch is your ticket to the all-you-can-eat dining facilities around campus. Punches, worth approximately $4, can also be used in the food-court style locations. Use a punch for a special “Duke Deal,” which is a set food and drink combination.
DHALL: The all-you-can-eat dining hall located in Gibbons Hall is referred to as D-hall. A student favorite is grilled cheese Thursdays. D-hall also hosts a number of theme dinners, such as Thanksgiving feasts and pajama nights.
COMMONS: This refers to the free speech area in front of D-hall where students can set up information tables and hand out fliers. There is also an off-campus apartment complex called The Commons located on Port Republic Road.
TDU: Taylor Down Under is located on the ground floor of Taylor Hall. It has a lounge area with cozy futons, a billiards room and a coffee bar. Its stage hosts musical performances, comedy shows and open mic nights.
CHIPS: Located across from the Bookstore, Mr. Chips is one of the two on-campus convenience stores. It sells food products, toiletry items, flowers, balloons and even DVD rentals. Mr. Chips accepts Dining Dollars for all food items, as well as FLEX, cash or credit cards.
