Welcome letter

Greetings from Student Body President Brandon C. Eickel

Welcome to James Madison University and congratulations on making one of the best decisions of your life! The students of this university are proud to live in the legacy of James Madison through a renewed understanding of the importance of educated and enlightened citizenship. The JMU community offers opportunities for students to truly make an impact in the lives of others and in the world. The university fosters an environment for self discovery and will challenge you to explore new paths as you strive for greatness.

All members of the Madison family, past and present, have their own unique reasons for loving JMU, and though we are all Dukes, James Madison University has produced roughly 100,000 different and incredible citizens. Somehow, some way, James Madison University has impacted our lives. We have come together, bonded by the belief in an institution, enlightened by the power of people, fueled by the desire to learn, and motivated by serving others. We are “All Together One.” You represent the future; you have joined our community during a very exciting and significant time in James Madison University’s history as we are in the midst of a year-long celebration of the university’s 100th birthday.

I hope each and every one of you can leave a legacy at this institution as you seek to preserve the past and create the future of James Madison University as we look forward to its next century. You’re about to begin a new phase in the journey of your life. Be happy. Be confident. Be excited. And be sure to wear comfortable shoes along the way! Congratulations class of 2011, welcome to JMU!
